Reasoning about Strategies: on the Satisfiability Problem

چکیده
Strategy Logic (SL, for short) has been introduced by Mogavero, Murano, and Vardi as a useful formalism for reasoning explicitly about strategies, as first-order objects, in multi-agent concurrent games. This logic turns out to be very powerful, subsuming all major previously studied modal logics for strategic reasoning, including ATL, ATL, and the like. Unfortunately, due to its high expressiveness, SL has a non-elementarily decidable model-checking problem and the satisfiability question is undecidable, specifically Σ1-hard. In order to obtain a decidable sublogic, we introduce and study here One-Goal Strategy Logic (SL[1g], for short). This is a syntactic fragment of SL, strictly subsuming ATL, which encompasses formulas in prenex normal form having a single temporal goal at a time, for every strategy quantification of agents. We prove that, unlike SL, SL[1g] has the bounded tree-model property and its satisfiability problem is decidable in 2ExpTime, thus not harder than the one for ATL.

Locality in Reasoning about Graph Transformations
This paper explores how to reason locally about global properties of graph transformations, in particular properties involving transitive closure of the edge relations of the graph. We show under which conditions we can soundly reduce reasoning about all nodes in the graph to reasoning about a finite set of nodes. We then give an effective procedure to turn this reduced problem into a Boolean s...
متن کاملTwo Easy Theories Whose Combination is Hard
We restrict attention to the validity problem for unquantified disjunctions of literals (possibly negated atomic formulae) over the domain of integers, or what is just as good, the satisfiability problem for unquantified conjunctions. When = is the only predicate symbol and all function symbols are left uninterpreted, or when ≤ is the only predicate symbol (taking its standard interpretation on...
متن کاملDecidability of Propositionally Quantified Logics of Knowledge
Logics of knowledge have important applications for reasoning about security protocols and multi-agent systems. We extend the semantics for the logic of necessity with local propositional quantification L ( ,∃,∃1,...∃k) introduced in [4] to allow reasoning about knowledge in more general (non-hierarchical) systems. We show that these new semantics preserve the properties of knowledge in a multi...
متن کاملExperiments with SAT-based Answer Set Programming
Answer Set Programming (ASP) emerged in the late 1990s as a new logic programming paradigm which has been successfully applied in various application domains. Propositional satisfiability (SAT) is one of the most studied problems in Computer Science. ASP and SAT are closely related: Recent works have studied their relation, and efficient SAT-based ASP solvers (like assat and Cmodels) exist. In ...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of Dynamic Epistemic Logic
Although Dynamic Epistemic Logic (DEL) is an influential logical framework for representing and reasoning about information change, little is known about the computational complexity of its associated decision problems. In fact, we only know that for public announcement logic, a fragment of DEL, the satisfiability problem and the model-checking problem are respectively PSPACE-complete and in P....
